It was inevitable the first wave of new VR headsets would be expensive but the Rift's price could start a price war between the three companies. Pre-orders for the Rift went live on 6 January, surprising many with its £500 price tag. The device is only compatible with Sony's PlayStation 4 console and so will not compete directly with PC headsets HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. Sony has yet to announce its release plans for PSVR but we do know it will arrive in the first half of 2016. "So I think we have a lot of good support, and it will be a great product coming out later this year." "We have more than 200 developers signed up for the PlayStation VR program who are working on probably about 100 or more titles that will play on PlayStation VR, is a testament to the kind of support we're getting," Hirai told the BBC. More than 50 games and demos have been announced for Sony's PlayStation VR (PSVR) virtual reality headset but that is only the half of it, according to company CEO Kaz Hirai, speaking at CES 2016.
